The discovery of the positron (a positively charged electron) is credited to American physicist Carl D. Anderson. In 1932\u2014while studying cosmic rays using a cloud chamber\u2014Anderson observed particle tracks that curved in the opposite direction to electrons when subjected to a magnetic field. This unexpected phenomenon suggested the existence of a positively charged counterpart to the electron. Anderson's groundbreaking work led to the identification of the positron and confirmed the existence of antimatter which earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1936. The discovery of the positron played a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of particle physics and contributed significantly to the development of modern theoretical frameworks including quantum field theory.<\/p>
